Frequently asked questions

The questions the office is asked most often, answered plainly. If yours is not here, call 510-451-6950 and ask. There is no form to fill in first.

Consultation and pricing

How much does a procedure cost?

Every treatment is tailored to the individual. After a thoughtful consultation, we will provide a personalized plan and pricing aligned with your goals. Minor procedures including mole removals and lasers are done at Dr. Chin's office. Other surgical procedures (rhinoplasty, otoplasty, liposuction) are completed at a surgical center, which charges its own facility and anesthesia fees. The office will tell you what those are for your procedure before anything is scheduled.

Is there a consultation fee?

Yes, there is a consultation fee of $100. This fee will be applied toward your procedure if you choose to proceed.

Do you offer financing or payment plans?

Yes, we offer flexible financing options to make procedures more accessible.

Do you offer virtual consultations?

Yes, we offer virtual Zoom consultations for non-surgical procedures (Botox, lasers, injections).

Insurance and coverage

Which insurance plans do you accept?

The office accepts the following plans:

  • Medicare
  • Anthem Blue Cross / Blue Shield
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • Aetna

If your insurance plan is not listed, please feel free to contact our office. We are happy to verify your insurance coverage and answer any questions you may have.

Will my insurance cover my procedure?

Insurance covers care that is medically necessary. Cosmetic and elective treatments, including a mole removal done for appearance rather than for a medical reason, are paid out of pocket. Dr. Chin will tell you which of the two yours is at your consultation, before anything is scheduled.

Do you take workers compensation and lien cases?

Yes. Workers compensation patients are treated here and the reporting a comp claim requires is routine for this office. If an attorney is handling an accident claim, treatment can proceed on a lien while the case settles. Both are arranged by phone or through the request form rather than the online scheduler.

Procedures and results

What is Dr. Chin’s approach to aesthetic results?

Dr. Chin focuses on refined, natural-looking outcomes that enhance your features without looking overdone.

What type of patients does Dr. Chin typically see?

Dr. Chin treats a wide range of patients, from those seeking subtle enhancements to more comprehensive transformations. He also works with workers compensation, personal injury, insurance, and out-of-pocket patients.

Will there be visible scars?

Scars are carefully minimized and placed discreetly whenever possible. Additionally, Dr. Chin applies a specific suture technique to help prevent scarring.

Logistics and recovery

How do I prepare for surgery?

We will provide detailed pre-op instructions, including medications, diet, and lifestyle adjustments at your pre-operative visit two weeks before your surgery.

Where are procedures performed?

Procedures take place in accredited surgical settings, either in-office or at select Bay Area facilities, including Redwood Surgery Center, Oakland Surgery Center, and The Surgery Center of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center, chosen for safety, privacy, and comfort.

What is the downtime after surgery?

Downtime varies by procedure, ranging from a few days to several weeks. We provide detailed recovery plans at your pre- and post-operative visits.

Still have a question?

Call the office and ask, or bring it to your consultation. Workers compensation, lien and attorney enquiries are handled by phone or by the request form, not the online scheduler.
