Candidacy for a facelift

People of all ages can be found to be suitable candidates for a facelift procedure. Contrary to popular belief this procedure is not just for the older population. If you are experiencing any of the following issues, a facelift could help improve skin laxity and wrinkles.

  • Heavy eyebrows and forehead

  • Deep smile lines and nasolabial folds (the lines that run from your nose to your mouth)

  • Downturned corners of your mouth

  • Significant lines and wrinkles around the eyes, across the forehead and around the lips

  • Development of a double chin

  • Loss of definition around the jaw

What to expect to happen during a facelift

A facelift surgery is always carried out under general anesthesia. This means that you will be asleep for the duration of the procedure, and you will not experience any pain.

Conventional facelift surgery involves an incision being made along your hairline and around your ear. This helps to ensure that scarring is as discreet as possible. Once the incision has been made, the overlying skin will be separated from the tissues beneath. This enables Dr. Chin to directly address any muscles that may need tightening, before placing the skin back over the top of the tissues and manipulating it so that it more closely fits around the natural contours of your face. Doing this corrects deep lines, folds, and wrinkles. The skin is positioned into place and is secured by sutures any excess is removed. Patients are then left with a tighter, smoother and more youthful skin that can enhance their overall appearance.

Recovery after a facelift

You will find that your face is wrapped in dressings that are designed to keep your sutures and incision sites clean and dry. Beneath the bandages, your face will feel tight and sore, and some swelling and inflammation is to be expected. You will be given pain medication to help relieve any discomfort, and these should be taken as directed.

Most patients are recommended to take at least 7-10 days off of work while they recover. You will be provided with post-operative instructions and it is essential that you follow the instructions to minimize the risk of complications and ensure that you achieve the best result from your procedure.
