Oakland Tummy Tuck

If you have experienced pregnancy, major weight changes, and/or aging, you may be left with loose, sagging skin in the midsection and stretched-out abdominal muscles. In order to correct these features, Douglas Chin, M.D., F.A.C.S. and Glen K. Lau, M.D. perform tummy tuck surgery at their Oakland practice, Bay Area MedAesthetics.

Information on Tummy Tuck Surgery

Dr. Chin or Dr. Lau will thoroughly explain the procedure during your visit. Based on your individual anatomy and ideal outcome, a personalized body contouring surgical plan will be created. Either of our surgeons will perform one of the varied tummy tuck surgery (“abdominoplasty”) techniques to help you achieve a slender, toned abdominal profile should you qualify for this procedure.

If you have excess sagging skin and loose abdominal muscles, a full abdominoplasty is typically recommended. This requires an incision along the lower abdomen from hipbone to hipbone, followed by separation of the skin from the underlying muscles. One of our East Bay tummy tuck surgeons will then tighten the muscles and remove excess skin. In addition, a new opening for the belly button may be necessary when performing a full tummy tuck. If you have undergone massive weight loss, Dr. Chin or Dr. Lau may recommend circumferential abdominoplasty, in which skin and fat is removed from around the torso, including the back.

Those who have minimal sagging skin and stretched muscles limited to the region below the navel may be better suited for a mini tummy tuck procedure. Dr. Chin or Dr. Lau will make the same type of incision but only focus on the lower abdomen. Some patients may be better candidates for liposuction (“lipoplasty”) if there is only stubborn fat present. Liposuction may also be combined with tummy tuck surgery for optimal results.

Examples of patient results are available in abdominoplasty before and after pictures. If you would like to gain greater insight of the care provided by our plastic surgeons and their staff, you can read patient testimonials.
